ANIMALS |
Tropical rainforests are homes to many different types of animals. These animals are some of the strangest looking, most beautiful, the largest or the smallest, the most dangerous or most gentle, and the quietest or the most loud. There are so many animals that millions of them haven't been named yet and some haven't even been identified. About one half of all of the world's species can be found in these tropical rainforests.
Fact: Scientists believe that there are so many different species of animals in these regions because rainforests are the oldest ecosystem on the earth.
Some rainforests in Southeast asia have been around for at least one hundred million years. This means that they have been here since the dinosaurs roamed the earths' ground. During an ice age that occured about 10,000 years ago, millions of species of animals became extinct in these same areas although the freeze did not reach all of the regions. Since not all of the land did not freeze, this allowed plants and animals to continue to evolve and developed into the most complex and different ecosystem on the earth.
Fact: Most of the aniamls that live in these areas are endemis, which means that they are found no where else on the earth. Scientists have estimated that there are 50 million different of invertebrates that exist in these areas.
Many different animals have developed relationships with each other and in the end, this is a benefit for both of these species. Every species has made adaption, or ways to survive, to their surroundings. This means that these animals have the ability to protect themselves from being anothers meal.
Fact: About 35 different species become extint every day. Logging, cattle ranching, and the event of over populating have played a huge part in the loss of millions of acres of this precious land to be destroyed. Animals are warned to move or of what is about to happen, so when there homes are destroyed, they are also destroyed in the mean time.
Extinction
Extinction is the loss of a whole
entire species of animal. This is not a topic that should be taken lightly and that should
be pushed aside although it sometimes happens naturally. In this day in age, humans are
chnging their surroundings too quick and are not giving these animals enough time to
get used to them. Only until recently, have so many species of animals become extinct in
such a short period of time.
Man must learn to live in peace and harmony with animals before there are no more creatures left to observe and to love!
